Sierra Club hosts Grand Canyon area uranium symposium

There are more than 500 abandoned uranium mines on the Navajo Nation, and many Northern Arizona University students live with the legacy of health impacts on their communities. Meanwhile new uranium mines are being proposed and developed, including Canyon Mine, which is preparing to open just a few miles from Grand Canyon National Park.

This is a student-organized 4 day symposium with lectures, films, and discussions. Dinner will be served each night.

Speakers include NAU PhD Tommy Rock, Havasupai Tribal Council Member Carletta Tilousi, Taylor McKinnon of the Center for Biological Diversity, Dr. David Kreamer of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and Mansel Nelson of the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals. Speakers are still being added; check back here for final schedule!
